We wanted to provide you all with some updates and information regarding our landscaping in Lowry Village 1.
- The Archer Island - The Board has decided to update and refurbish the Archer Island. A few weeks ago we met with a landscape architect to discuss the island and after speaking with her she provided us with three options to consider. The first option, the least costly, would consist of fertilization based on a soil analysis and updating the irrigation system. The second option, the most costly, is a complete overhaul of the island. It would include removing junipers and barberries, amending soil, taking up landscaping fabric, adding new shrubs, and an irrigation redesign. The third option, a middle-priced option, would include removing junipers and barberries, taking up landscaping fabric, amending the soil, and adding new sod throughout the island. You can read more about the specifics of each option here. We plan on implementing one of the options in spring 2014. The HOA has reserves for this project so it will not require a special assessment. We'll be discussing all three options at our next HOA meetings - Oct 1 and the annual meeting on Nov 18. Please feel free to attending one or both meetings if you'd like to provide feedback and/or if you have any questions.
- The Rounders - Lowry Village 1 has 16 rounders in our neighborhood. Most of them looked great this summer - thank you to everyone who took the time to adopt a rounder or two. Our adoption program is important because there is no irrigation to the rounders. We'll continue our rounder program next spring in which the HOA provides a gift card to those that adopt rounders to help offset the costs incurred.
- Pruning of Bushes and Shrubs - This summer we changed our pruning philosophy with regard to our bushes and shrubs. First, in the past, most of the bushes and shrubs we're pruned in a box-like shape producing flat tops and sides. Moving forward our bushes and shrubs will be pruned in a more natural shape. Natural pruning preserves the natural shape and density of bushes and shrubs and creates a better looking and healthier plant. Additionally, we are implementing a rejuvenation pruning plan for some of our bushes and shrubs. In rejuvenation pruning, the shrub is pruned by cutting off all old branches at or near ground level. Healthy shrubs will respond by sending up multiple new shoots, and these will need to be thinned to reduce competition and maintain the natural form of the shrub. Some rejuvenation pruning will occur this fall and will continue over the next few years.
